Residential Window Installation and Replacement in Medina

Medina has a mix of housing stock that keeps window work interesting. Around the square you have 1800s and early 1900s homes with true divided-light wood sashes, and a few blocks out you have 1970s and 1990s subdivisions with aluminum and early vinyl units that are now failing at the seal. Residential window installation and replacement in Medina is not a one-size job, and we do not treat it like one. We measure the rough opening, check the sill for rot, and pick the right unit for the wall you actually have. Northeast Ohio swings from single digits in January to 90s in July, and that thermal cycling is what kills cheap windows. Low-E glass with argon gas and a proper sill pan does the heavy lifting. We serve Medina proper plus the surrounding townships, and we handle everything from a single window replacement to a full house window replacement.

Medina is a working county seat with a real downtown, and the housing runs from century-old brick to brand-new construction. That range means we see rotted window frames on the older homes and failed window seals on the newer ones. Homeowners here also deal with wind-driven rain off the open fields west of town, which finds every gap in flashing and caulk. We stay busy in Medina because the work is steady and the standards are high.

Who we serve in Medina

Two very different jobs. One local crew.

For homes

Residential Window Work in Medina

Medina is a homeowner town. Most of our work is on owner-occupied houses, from starter ranches off Route 18 to century homes around the square. Families here care about three things: keeping the heat in, cutting the street noise, and getting windows that open and close without a fight.

Full house window replacement

If more than half your Medina home's windows have failed seals or foggy glass, replacing them all at once costs less per opening than doing them one at a time. We phase the work by floor so you are never without a window overnight.

Single window replacement

One cracked pane or one foggy kitchen window does not mean you need a whole-house job. We match the profile and color as close as the manufacturer allows and install it in about two hours, with the same flashing and sealing detail as a full job.

Double hung and casement installs

Double hung units fit the older two-story homes around the Medina square, where tilt-in sashes make cleaning possible without a ladder. Casements seal tighter against the wind-driven rain on the west side of town.

Sill repair and rot replacement

A lot of Medina homes need the sill fixed before the window goes in. We cut out the rot, splice in treated lumber, and set the new unit on a sill pan so it is not sitting in water. We do not install over soft wood.

  • Lower heating bills in January when the low-E glass and air sealing actually hold the heat in.
  • Quieter rooms on the Route 18 and Route 3 corridors where traffic noise comes through old single-pane glass.
  • Windows that open, tilt, and lock with one hand instead of sticking and fighting you every spring.

For businesses

Commercial Window Work in Medina

Commercial window replacement in Medina is a different animal than residential. You are dealing with storefront systems, larger openings, and a business that cannot afford to be closed for a week. We schedule commercial work around your hours, including evenings and weekends, and we phase it so your entrance stays usable.

  • Retail storefronts
  • Professional offices
  • Medical and dental clinics
  • Restaurants and cafes
  • Light industrial and warehouse
Off-hours scheduling

We work evenings and weekends on Medina commercial jobs so your storefront stays open during business hours. For a downtown shop near the square, that means we are not blocking your entrance on a Saturday afternoon.

Storefront and entry systems

Commercial openings are often larger and heavier than residential units, and they need different flashing and anchoring. We handle storefront glazing, entry doors, and larger fixed units, not just standard double hung replacements.

Phased installation

On a multi-tenant building or a large office, we phase the work by elevation or by suite so no business loses all its windows at once. You get a schedule before we start, and we hold to it.

Code and ADA compliance

Commercial glazing has to meet safety glazing requirements and, at entries, ADA reach and clearance rules. We spec the right glass and hardware so your inspection passes the first time.

Service by service in Medina

Each service below is a full breakdown of how the work is scoped, priced and carried out in this city — not a generic description.

Window Replacement 01
Window Replacement in Medina

Window Replacement in Medina

Window replacement in Medina starts with understanding the city's mix of 1950s ranches and newer builds. Our crews remove failing units and install energy-efficient replacements built for Medina's freeze-thaw cycles and summer storms. From the Square to Weymouth, we handle permits, disposal, and trim so your home looks finished, not patched.

Signs You Need Replacement

Drafts near windows in Medina's older west-side homes often signal failed seals, not just weatherstripping. If you see fog between panes, rotting sills, or condensation that never clears, replacement beats repair. We inspect each unit and show you exactly why it failed, so you can decide with facts, not pressure.

Materials Built for Medina

Vinyl and fiberglass frames outperform wood in Medina's humid summers and icy winters. We spec low-E glass with argon fill to cut heat loss and block UV that fades furniture. For historic districts near the Square, we match profiles and colors so replacements respect the neighborhood's character while improving comfort.

Our Replacement Process

We measure every opening, order custom units, and schedule installation in one visit when possible. Crews protect floors, remove old windows intact, and insulate rough openings before setting new frames. You get a walkthrough, care instructions, and a workmanship warranty that covers Medina homes for years.

  • Remove and dispose of old windows and debris
  • Install custom-sized energy-efficient replacement units
  • Insulate and seal rough openings for airtight fit
  • Provide written workmanship warranty and care guide

Window Installation 02
Window Installation in Medina

Window Installation in Medina

Window installation in Medina demands precision because our housing stock ranges from century homes near the Square to new builds in Lexington Ridge. We install new-construction and retrofit units with proper flashing, shimming, and sealing. Whether you're finishing a remodel or adding windows to a sunroom, we deliver a weathertight fit that lasts.

New Construction and Remodels

For Medina builders and homeowners adding on, we coordinate with framers to set windows at the right rough-opening dimensions. We verify level, plumb, and square before fastening, then flash and seal per manufacturer specs. This prevents leaks that show up years later in finished walls and ceilings.

Retrofit Installation Done Right

Retrofit installs in Medina's older homes require careful sizing because openings are rarely square. We measure at multiple points, order exact-fit units, and use low-expansion foam plus backer rod to seal gaps. The result is a draft-free installation that preserves your existing trim whenever possible.

Permits and Inspections

Medina requires permits for many window projects, and we handle the paperwork. We schedule inspections and keep your project compliant with local codes. That means no surprises at resale and a record that your installation met the standards expected in this community.

  • Measure rough openings and verify square before ordering
  • Flash, shim, and seal each unit to manufacturer specs
  • Pull required Medina permits and schedule inspections
  • Clean job site and haul away all packaging

Residential Window Replacement 03
Residential Window Replacement in Medina

Residential Window Replacement in Medina

Residential window replacement in Medina is about comfort, efficiency, and curb appeal. We replace worn windows in neighborhoods like Weymouth and Medina Heights with units designed for Ohio's temperature swings. Homeowners choose us for clear pricing, tidy crews, and replacements that lower energy bills while upgrading how their homes look and feel.

Energy Savings You Can Measure

Old single-pane windows in Medina homes leak conditioned air year-round. Replacing them with double-pane, low-E units reduces heating and cooling demand. Many customers see noticeable comfort improvements immediately and lower utility bills within a season. We help you compare glass packages so you invest where it matters most.

Styles That Fit Medina Homes

From double hung to casement, we match window styles to your home's architecture. Colonials near the Square often call for traditional grids, while ranches in the north end look best with clean lines. We bring samples so you can see frame colors and hardware against your existing siding and trim.

A Clean, Respectful Install

Our residential crews treat your home like their own. We lay drop cloths, remove old units carefully, and vacuum drywall dust before leaving. You get a walkthrough of every window, operation checks, and a warranty packet. Neighbors in Medina often comment on how little disruption the project caused.

  • Replace all failed and inefficient residential windows
  • Offer low-E and argon glass upgrade options
  • Protect interior floors and landscaping during work
  • Walk through each window and explain warranty coverage

Full House Window Replacement 04
Full House Window Replacement in Medina

Full House Window Replacement in Medina

Full house window replacement in Medina transforms comfort and efficiency in one project. Instead of replacing windows room by room, we upgrade every opening with consistent style, glass, and performance. It's the right call for homes built before 1980, where original windows have exceeded their service life and energy loss adds up.

Why Replace Every Window

Mixed-age windows create uneven comfort and unpredictable energy bills. A full house replacement in Medina ensures every room benefits from modern glass and tight seals. It also unifies curb appeal, which matters when neighbors on your street are updating their homes and you want to keep pace.

Phasing and Budgeting

We know full replacements are an investment. We provide itemized quotes and can phase work if needed, though most Medina homeowners prefer one installation window. Financing options help spread cost, and because we order all units together, you get consistent manufacturing and a single warranty.

One Crew, One Standard

A single crew handles your entire home, so quality stays consistent from first window to last. We sequence rooms to minimize disruption, often completing most homes in one to three days. At the end, you get a whole-house walkthrough and documentation for every unit installed.

  • Replace every window in the home in one project
  • Provide itemized quote and optional financing plans
  • Sequence work to minimize daily disruption
  • Deliver whole-house warranty and maintenance guide

Single Window Replacement 05
Single Window Replacement in Medina

Single Window Replacement in Medina

Single window replacement in Medina is perfect when one unit fails but the rest are fine. Maybe a seal broke in your kitchen, or a bedroom window cracked during a storm. We match the replacement to your existing windows so the fix looks intentional, not mismatched, and we do it without pressuring you into a full-house project.

Matching Existing Windows

Color, grid pattern, and hardware vary by manufacturer. We identify your existing window brand when possible and source a close match. If an exact match isn't available, we explain differences and show samples so you can choose the best option for your Medina home's appearance and budget.

Fast Turnaround Repairs

A broken window is a security and energy concern. We prioritize single-unit replacements and often complete them within days of measuring. For Medina homeowners dealing with storm damage or a failed seal, that speed matters, especially before the next cold front or heavy rain arrives.

When One Becomes Many

Sometimes replacing one window reveals that others are near failure. We point out warning signs without upselling. If you decide to replace more later, your initial project is documented, and we can match the same product line so your home stays consistent over time.

  • Source a close match to your existing window style
  • Measure and install the single replacement unit
  • Haul away old window and clean the work area
  • Document the install for future matching needs

Double Hung Window Installation 06
Double Hung Window Installation in Medina

Double Hung Window Installation in Medina

Double hung window installation in Medina is a favorite for older homes because both sashes slide for ventilation and cleaning. We install units that tilt in for easy maintenance, a big plus for two-story houses near the Square. Our crews ensure smooth operation and tight locks that seal out drafts during Ohio winters.

Ventilation and Easy Cleaning

Double hung windows let you open top and bottom sashes to move hot air out in summer. Tilt-in sashes make cleaning second-floor windows safer, no ladder required. For Medina homeowners with tall colonials, that convenience alone often justifies choosing double hung over other styles.

Security and Sealing

We adjust locks and check sash alignment so windows close tight. In Medina's windy winters, a poorly sealed double hung window whistles and leaks heat. Our installers shim and insulate the frame, then verify that both sashes meet the meeting rail snugly for a quiet, efficient fit.

Style Options for Medina

Choose from vinyl, fiberglass, or wood interiors to match your home's character. Grid patterns can replicate historic looks in older neighborhoods or stay clean and modern elsewhere. We bring full-size samples so you can see how each option looks against your existing trim and siding.

  • Install tilt-in double hung units for easy cleaning
  • Adjust sashes and locks for tight, quiet closure
  • Offer grid and finish options to match your home
  • Verify smooth operation and seal on every window

Casement Window Installation 07
Casement Window Installation in Medina

Casement Window Installation in Medina

Casement window installation in Medina is ideal for hard-to-reach spots and modern designs. These windows crank open outward, catching cross breezes and sealing tightly when closed. We install them in kitchens, basements, and contemporary homes where maximum ventilation and energy efficiency matter more than traditional looks.

Maximum Ventilation

Casements open fully to let in more air than double hung units. In Medina's humid summers, that airflow helps clear cooking odors and cool rooms without relying solely on AC. We position hinges and cranks so screens stay secure and operation stays smooth for years.

Tight Seals for Efficiency

When closed, casement windows compress against weatherstripping for an excellent seal. That reduces drafts and heat loss in Medina's cold months. We check crank tension and lock alignment during installation so every unit closes firmly and stays that way through seasonal temperature swings.

Where Casements Work Best

Over kitchen sinks, in basements, and along contemporary walls, casements shine. They're also good for upper floors where reaching to open a double hung is awkward. We help Medina homeowners choose the right locations so function and style both improve.

  • Install crank-operated casement units with screens
  • Verify tight seal and smooth crank operation
  • Position windows for optimal cross ventilation
  • Offer hardware finishes to match interior decor

Awning Window Installation 08
Awning Window Installation in Medina

Awning Window Installation in Medina

Awning window installation in Medina gives you ventilation even when it rains. These windows hinge at the top and open outward, so air flows in while precipitation stays out. They're a smart choice for basements, bathrooms, and any Medina room where you want fresh air without weather worries.

Rain-Safe Ventilation

Because awning windows open outward from the top, rain rarely enters. That makes them perfect for Medina's unpredictable spring showers. You can leave them cracked during a storm and still get airflow, which helps control humidity in basements and laundry rooms.

Great for High and Low Spaces

Awning windows work well above kitchen counters or below grade in basements. Their crank operation is easy to reach, and screens stay in place. For Medina homes with limited wall space, they provide ventilation without sacrificing privacy or furniture placement.

Energy Performance

When closed, awning windows seal tightly against the frame, reducing air infiltration. We install units with low-E glass options to improve efficiency in Medina's climate. The combination of tight seal and quality glass helps keep heating and cooling costs predictable.

  • Install top-hinged awning windows with screens
  • Test crank operation and weather seal on each unit
  • Recommend low-E glass for energy efficiency
  • Clean and haul away all packaging and debris

Bay Window Installation 09
Bay Window Installation in Medina

Bay Window Installation in Medina

Bay window installation in Medina adds space, light, and curb appeal. These windows project outward, creating a cozy nook and expanding your view. We handle framing, roofing, and interior trim so the finished bay looks original to your home, whether it's a colonial near the Square or a ranch on the north side.

Structural Considerations

Bay windows need proper support because they extend beyond the wall. We inspect framing and add headers or brackets as required. In Medina's older homes, that often means reinforcing the opening before installation so the bay stays level and leak-free for decades.

Roofing and Exterior Finish

The bay's mini roof must shed water away from the house. We flash and shingle it to match your existing roof, then side and trim the exterior. This detail work is what separates a professional bay installation in Medina from a patch job that leaks within a year.

Interior Comfort and Style

Inside, we finish drywall, trim, and sometimes a window seat. The extra glass brightens rooms and can improve passive solar gain in winter. We help you choose glass and finishes that suit your Medina home's style and your daily use.

  • Reinforce framing and install structural support
  • Flash and roof the bay to match existing shingles
  • Finish interior trim, drywall, and optional window seat
  • Seal all exterior joints and test for leaks

Bow Window Installation 10
Bow Window Installation in Medina

Bow Window Installation in Medina

Bow window installation in Medina offers a gentler curve than a bay, with four or more windows forming a graceful arc. They flood living rooms with light and expand views without the sharp angles of a traditional bay. We install bow windows that complement Medina's varied architecture and stand up to Ohio weather.

Design and Layout Options

Bow windows can have four, five, or six panels depending on the opening. We help you choose the right configuration for your Medina home's facade and interior layout. More panels mean a smoother curve and wider view, but also more glass to insulate.

Weatherproofing the Curve

The curved shape requires careful flashing and sealing at each joint. We use flexible membranes and quality caulk to keep water out. In Medina's freeze-thaw cycles, that attention to detail prevents ice damming and leaks that plague poorly installed bow windows.

Energy and Comfort

All that glass can mean heat gain in summer and loss in winter. We specify low-E coatings and argon fill to balance daylight with efficiency. The result is a bright, comfortable room that doesn't drive up your Medina utility bills.

  • Configure four to six panels for your opening
  • Flash and seal each joint against water intrusion
  • Install low-E glass to manage heat gain and loss
  • Finish interior trim and exterior siding details

How We Run Window Work in Medina

Medina County follows the Ohio Residential Code, and replacement windows have to meet the current energy provisions, which means ENERGY STAR rated units with NFRC certification labels. We pull the permit when the scope r

Freeze-thaw cycles cracking exterior caulk joints

Medina gets repeated freeze-thaw from December into March, and that movement opens the caulk line around the frame. Water gets behind the trim, and by spring you have soft wood and a stained interior sill.

How we help: We back-bed the frame with expanding foam, run flashing tape over the head flange, and use a paintable elastomeric caulk that stays flexible at low temperatures. Then we check the joint again at the one-year mark.

Rotted sills on century-old homes near the square

Homes built before 1930 around the Medina square often have wood sills that have been wet for decades. If you set a new window on a soft sill, the unit racks and the lock stops lining up within a season.

How we help: We probe the sill with an awl before we order anything. If it is soft, we cut out the bad section, splice in treated lumber, and set the new unit on a sill pan and setting blocks so it is not sitting in water.

Wind-driven rain off open fields west of town

The west side of Medina opens up to farmland, and there is nothing to break the wind. Rain gets pushed horizontally into window heads and side jambs, which is where most leaks start.

How we help: We tape the head flange, seal the jambs with low-expansion foam, and caulk the exterior perimeter in one continuous bead. On exposed walls we also check the weep holes so the unit can drain instead of holding water.

Recent Window Work Around Medina

These are the kinds of jobs we run in Medina every week. Names and exact addresses stay private, but the problems and the fixes are real.

01 Historic Downtown Medina

The problem

A 1920s two-story near the square had three windows painted shut and two with rotted sills that had been wet for years.

What we did

We cut out the soft sill sections, spliced in treated lumber, set sill pans, and installed wood-clad double hung units matched to the original profile. We re-caulked the exterior perimeter with a flexible elastomeric seal and checked operation on every sash.

The result

All five windows now open, tilt, and lock. The homeowner reported the upstairs bedroom held heat through the following winter without the space heater.

02 Route 18 Subdivisions

The problem

A 1998 subdivision home off Route 18 had foggy glass between panes in nine windows and condensation running down the inside of the kitchen unit.

What we did

We confirmed seal failure on nine units, quoted a full house window replacement phased by floor, and installed vinyl double hung windows with low-E glass and argon gas. We flashed the heads, foamed the jambs, and hauled the old units away.

The result

Nine windows replaced over two days. The homeowner said the street noise dropped noticeably and the fogging stopped completely.

03 West Liberty Street Corridor

The problem

A ranch on the west side had wind-driven rain leaking at the head of two windows every storm, staining the interior drywall.

What we did

We pulled both units, found missing flashing tape at the head, and reinstalled with a proper sill pan, flashing tape over the head flange, and low-expansion foam at the jambs. We re-caulked the full exterior perimeter.

The result

No leaks through the following spring storm season. The drywall stain was repaired and the interior trim was reinstalled.

Medina problem patterns

Window Problems We See Across Medina

Medina's climate and housing stock create a predictable set of window failures. Northeast Ohio freeze-thaw, wind-driven rain off the open farmland, and a wide range of home ages all push on the same weak points.

01

Window seal failure and foggy glass between panes

Why it happens: The sealed glass unit has a perimeter spacer and a desiccant. Years of thermal cycling from single digits to 90s breaks that seal, moisture gets in, and the desiccant is overwhelmed. In Medina, this hits 1990s and 2000s vinyl units hardest.

Our approach: We replace the failed unit with a low-E, argon-filled insulated glass package rated for the climate, and we check the frame for racking before we set it. If the frame is sound, you may only need the sash, not the whole window.

02

Drafty windows and high energy bills

Why it happens: Drafts come from failed weatherstripping, gaps at the rough opening, and glass that has lost its low-E coating performance. On older Medina homes, the original wood sashes have also shrunk and warped over decades.

Our approach: We air-seal the rough opening with expanding foam, replace the weatherstripping, and spec an ENERGY STAR rated unit with a low U-factor. Then we check the perimeter with a smoke pencil before we call the job done.

03

Rotted window frames and sills

Why it happens: Water gets behind the exterior caulk line, and freeze-thaw opens it further. On the century-old homes near the square, the sills have been wet for decades. Left alone, the rot travels into the wall framing.

Our approach: We probe the sill and jamb at estimate time. If there is rot, we cut it out, splice in treated lumber, and set the new window on a sill pan so it is not sitting in water. We do not install over soft wood.

04

Sticking windows and broken balances

Why it happens: Wood swells in humid Medina summers and shrinks in dry winter heat, which racks the frame. Painted-shut sashes and broken spiral balances are the result. On double hung units, a failed balance means the upper sash will not stay up.

Our approach: We square the opening, replace the balances or the sash, and check the tilt and lock function on every unit. If the frame is too far gone to square, we quote a full replacement instead of a repair that will not last.

Medina through the year

Seasons and Window Work in Medina

Northeast Ohio gives you four real seasons, and each one changes what we find on a window job. Fall is the busiest window replacement in Medina season because homeowners want the work done before the cold sets in.

Spring

Spring is when the winter damage shows up. You will find stained interior sills, cracked exterior caulk, and water stains at window heads from freeze-thaw movement. It is also the first chance to check for leaks after the thaw.

Tip: Walk the exterior after the first heavy rain and look for water tracking behind the trim. If you see staining, get it looked at before summer humidity gets into the wall.

Summer

Humidity swells wood frames, so sticking windows and hard-to-latch sashes are common. This is also the best time for full house window replacement because we can leave openings briefly without losing heat.

Tip: If your windows stick in July, note which ones. That list tells us whether the frame has racked or the sash has simply swollen, and it saves time at estimate.

Fall

Fall is peak season. Homeowners want new windows in before the first hard freeze, and our schedule fills up. Foggy glass and drafty frames get noticed the first time you run the furnace.

Tip: Book your estimate in early fall. If you wait until the first cold snap, you are looking at a longer wait for install, and you will spend the interim heating the outdoors.

Winter

Single-digit temperatures expose every air leak. Drafts at the frame, frost on the inside of the glass, and condensation on the pane are all winter signals. We still install in winter, but we watch the forecast for caulk cure temperatures.

Tip: If a window is cracked or the house is open to the weather, call right away. We can seal it temporarily and schedule the permanent replacement when the weather breaks.

Getting Around Medina

Medina is easy to navigate once you know the grid. We use the square as our center point and work outward, which keeps drive time down and lets us fit more estimates into a day. If you are near a landmark below, mention it when you call and we will know exactly where you are.

Public Square (Medina Square)

The center of town and the main orientation point. Streets radiate out from the square, so it is the fastest way to describe where a job sits relative to downtown.

Medina County Courthouse

Sits just off the square and is a reliable landmark for the older residential blocks immediately surrounding downtown, where most of our historic-home window work happens.

Medina Community Recreation Center

On the north side of town and a useful reference point for the neighborhoods and subdivisions that feed into that part of the city.

Medina Hospital (Cleveland Clinic)

A major anchor on the east side of Medina. It helps us place jobs along the Route 18 corridor and the residential streets that branch off it.

FAQs About Residential Window Installation and Replacement in Medina

Our team can help if your question is not answered here.

Call +18333460519 →

Most Medina window replacements run $450 to $900 per window installed for standard vinyl double hung units, and $900 to $1,600 per opening for fiberglass or wood-clad. A full house window replacement on a 15-window home typically lands between $7,500 and $14,000. Sill repair and bay or bow windows add to that.

A 15-window Medina home usually takes two to three days with a full crew, phased by floor so you keep the house livable. Single window replacement takes about two hours. If we find sill rot, add a day for the carpentry before the new units go in.

A straight size-for-size replacement usually does not need a permit, but enlarging an opening or installing a bay or bow window does. We handle the Medina County permit and the inspection when the scope requires it, and we leave the NFRC labels on the glass until the inspector signs off.

Fall is the busiest window replacement in Medina season because homeowners want the work done before the first hard freeze. Spring is the second-best window. We install year-round, but we watch caulk cure temperatures in winter and may phase the exterior sealing if it drops below the manufacturer minimum.

Foggy glass between the panes means the sealed unit has failed and needs replacement, not repair. Drafts at the frame, sticking sashes, and broken balances are often repairable if the frame is sound. Press an awl into the sill. If it sinks, you have rot, and that has to be fixed before any window goes in.
